What is DLobby? #
DLobby manages short-lived "lobbies" in your Discord server using a Forum channel, threads, and slash commands. This allows you to keep all lobbies in one spot. DLobby's management of lobbies ensures that lobbies are properly closed (and archived) rather than accidentally left open.
What is a lobby? #
Discord does not have a discrete definition of a lobby. Discord is a chat platform with servers, channels, and threads. Generally servers, channels, and threads are long lived once created, existing to serve a static theme or topic.
"Lobby" is an abstract term to describe an ephemeral place that spawns into existence when multiple people come together for a shared activity. This space exists only for as long as the group needs it. It is deleted or discarded when the activity is over.
Lobbies (sometimes "rooms", or "parties") are commonly used terms in gaming to signify a group of folks getting together (virtually) to play a video game. Lobbies are often associated with "room codes", "room names", and "passwords" so that other people can join the lobby creator.
How does DLobby work? #
Open a lobby with the /dlobby create
slash command.
Upon creation, a lobby has an lifespan of 90 minutes.
If a lobby is nearing expiration time the lobby creator can run
/dlobby extend
to renew the lobby's lifespan for an
additional 90 minutes. An open lobby can continually receive time
extensions up to a maximum of 24 hours.
When the lobby creator is finished with the lobby, they can run
/dlobby close
to close and archive the lobby. If the
lobby creator forgets to close the lobby, it's no sweat. DLobby will close
the lobby at the end of its 90 minute lifespan.
After a lobby has existed on Discord for 90 days, DLobby will delete the thread from its assigned forum channel, to avoid archived lobbies piling up forever.

Is DLobby a good fit for my Discord server? #
DLobby might be a good fit for your server if it's commonplace for members to play video games together that require coordination for meeting up in-game. Some quick examples are fighting games, the Monster Hunter series, and Deep Rock Galactic.
DLobby might be a good fit for your server if your server plays host to video game tournaments or competitive events on occasion. Spawning a lobby (or multiple lobbies) to keep logistical conversation contained would aid in event organization.
If this sounds great, please see Setup for information on getting your own server integrated and for guidance on interacting with DLobby.
